Found this quote by the author of a copy protection article to be quite funny:

"I'm guessing it's because DVD's were born copy protected. We, the consumers, just accepted copy protection as part of the DVD's definition-like books. (You can buy special software that can duplicate a DVD, but most people don't bother. Somehow it doesn't seem worth the trouble, just as it's too much trouble to photocopy a book.)"

He obviously doesn't know the process..lol

  3. It's not that funny at all... he's completely correct.

I would estimate that the number of people who backup their DVDs to be way less than 1% of DVD owners.

And, for most people the fact that DVDs are copy protected is "natural" and unquestioned.

Vitualis is definitely correct. Just about each and every friend I know has NO CLUE how to backup DVD's. I've explained certain methods, but they don't have the patience for it.

You really need to have an ability to learn fast, or learn at all, for a lot of these methods. Now with the advent of these one step, brain-dead programs, such as DVD2ONE and InstantCopy 7, anyone can back up a dvd. Even though the quality isn't there for "me" personally, they are still an answer for many. Sooner or later though, a one step program will come around that will allow for original like quality with the addition of menu's, etc., and at that time, backing up DVD's will inevitably increase drastically.
