Information there is pretty sparse. It *implies* there's some sort of MPEG compression being done in order to create DVD-Rs, but by the same token they only refer to burning "images" to DVD-R.
$5 says all it is is a slimline external DVD burner.
Given the price, I'd spend another $150 and get a Panasonic DMR-HS2.

Actually, I was thinking street price of the HS2. You're right though, that is apples and oranges. List price, there's a $400 difference; no idea how the street prices compare...
