    Hi,
I'm trying to convert my holiday movie to DivX in ffmpegX 6.b.
The file is a quicktime export from iMovie, settings: DV-Pal for video and no compression for sound (I've tried other compressions for sound).
The encoding goes well with both mencoder and ffmpeg (both MPEG4 and DivX3).
The result is a DivX without sound.
This normal (as far as I know) but when I use DivX validator 5 I'm not getting a new file (for example X.avi -> X(converted).avi) it just changes the icon and when I double click it Quicktime doesn't even show the video source (nor audio)...
    Does anyone have a clue?
BTW: I've succesfully converted the same source to MPEG1 and 2....
    Thanking in advance!

    Mark

Sub question: Why do I have to put all my DivX's through DivX validator before I get sound?? Even the ones which play perfect on my friend's PC.

I have yet to convert DV to DIVX, but I do have the same problem with the DIVX Validator at times. I think this is because there is a problem with the file, most likely related to the fact that you stated that your file doesn't have sound. Try to put it into DIVX Doctor II, sometimes it states the problem if there is one. The only real advice I can give you is, if all DIVX Validator does is change your icon, then it really hasn't done any kind of conversion at all like it should. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't know the answer myself, so if someone out there does, please post an answer.

Strangely enough I have to use the 2nd audio channel when converting to Divx and the 1st audio channel when converting to MPEG..
But the result of a DV to Divx is not great.. When the Divx is is deinterlaced the result is slightly beter but audio is still out of sync and motion is far from perfect..
