I've now heard a few times that it has been recommended to NOT use Nero for DVD burning. The DVD2ONE site has said (http://www.dvd2one.com/howtouse.htm, at the bottom):
I use Nero all the time and every DVD player has worked fine, but this still kind of bugs and has me thinking of using one of these other programs recommended by DVD2ONE. But I wanted to check with everyone here first. To re-iterate the quote: numerous DVD players will not play disks made with Nero.It is NOT recommended to use Nero. Tests have revealed that Nero does not make 100% compliant DVD-video disks, and numerous DVD players will not play disks made with Nero. We have had good results with RecordNow by Veritas and PrimoDVD by Prassi.
- Do most people agree that Nero is not good to use for burning DVD's
- Has or will Nero address this? (Has an update already been released)
- What is the most compatible DVD burning program?
When I think about this it really doesn't make sense. All Nero is doing is burning files that need to be in the DVD format, i.e. TS_VIDEO folder followed by VIDEO_TS.IFO , .VOB files ...etc
Well if all it's doing is burning these files how can this be incomatible with some players??? There doesn't seem to be anything special going on here so why can't some players read these files when they're burned by Nero yet can read the same files burned by some other program. Thanks.

Nero is the only program I've used to burn DVD-R's and I haven't had any problems. Actually, that's not true, I have used Prassi and really have no preference; one seems just as good as the other.

I got a little nervous about Nero myself and considered using RecordNow... however, I've never had any compatibility issues with the disks I've burned in Nero... they work in a variety of stand alone players... Nero has a new update out, 5.5.10.7 which supposedly fixes compatibilty issues...
I say if Nero works for you, continue to use it... I've burned over 100 DVDs with Nero and they all work flawlessly... -
Same here as with the others above. I've never had one problem with Nero, and I even burn in DVD-Video mode (which everyone swears you "should never do" on some of these other posts).
Again, if it works for you, go for it. -
IMHO Nero sucks for burning x(S)VCDs or DVDs. Esp Nero Express which doesn't even (as far as I can tell) have the option to change from UDF 1.05 to UDF1.02
The default for Nero burnt DVDs is UDF1.05 and it's true that many players can not play 1.05 discs.
If Nero works for you great, keep using it. But for me it's been nothing but problems (the old SVCD ff/rew bug, the VCD CDI folder bugs, the DVD UDF bugs, etc. etc) there are work arounds and new verisons come out (fixing old problems while introducing new ones) but I just do not 'trust' nero. And at $1.15 a pop I my DVDRs to burn correctly -
Today I downloaded the *latest* Nero: 5.5.10.7b
For the first time, DVDR's burnt in the DVD-Video mode of Nero play on my nasty Emerson DVD/VCR combo player. This is a watershed event --- if you have had problems with Nero in the past, give this latest one a try --- it might just do the trick!! -
Nero may have worked on all of the players that you have tried it on so far but it is generally less compatible. I dont know about the update that everyone is talking about though, it might fix the problems. I would recommend you use RecordNow Max or Prassi PrimoDVD because i have never heard of any issues with these as far as compatibility goes. I personally use prassi all the time.

I've always used NERO with no problem, the latest version does select the incorrect UDF version but other then that if I put the correct settings in everything is fine.
Also I've ALWAYS used the UDF/ISO option, never DVDVIDEO.
