hey...i got this drive since oct 2002 and burn over 300 dvd-r without a big problem....using dvddecrypter/nero/record now max...most of the time
I was burning it ok last night....this morning.....it just didn't work any more
The light is still on...i can put a blank in, take it out...
Win xp still recognize it....the problem is the drive can't read the blank dvd or any original dvd anymore
When i used dvddecrypter to burn...the program recognize the drive but the status is Drive not ready.....other programs appear to recognize the drive but kinda like frozen cause the drive is not ready
The firmware is 1f....i took that drive out and put on another pc....but the samething happen....so it must be something with the drive...
PLEASSSSSSEEEEEE HELP
Thanks

I hope it's not a common fault. All the reports I have read about this drive have been very favourable, and I am intending buying one in the next month or so.
At least it will still be under warranty, just return it and get a replacement. -

See if it can pass the test (probably won't). Call Sony, time for a replacement. -
yeh dude, if its broken then that means u get a new one if u have the receipt or a good warranty... I know I do

I have since had my drives replaced, both are December 2002 drives, and so far (knock on wood) both drives have been fine.
Do a test for me, place a disc in the drive and mark the disc with a pen (CDR pen) and make a note of the location of that mark on the disc. Close the tray, wait for the orange light on the drive to go out, when it does, open the drives tray and see if the mark is in the same place as when you closed the tray, if it is then the drives motor that spins the disc has failed.
I wish you good luck with getting the drive replaced if it is found to be faulty. -
yes....my drive is marked Sept 2002....sound like a bad batch...i can't believe this failed after over 300 dvdr burns....if you guys haven't reached that mark yet, be aware...it may die on you too...maybe i'm one of the person who overused it....
I will do a test tonight and let you guys know.....i bought it on oct.....from circuitcity.....can i get replacement from Sony or Circuitcity..
Also,,, when i check the drive today...the region changes only have 2 times left....i don't know why it lowered...it used to be 4,5 times when i bought it... -
yea....the motor has died....the disc does not spin...that why the drive took long to become ready...will calll sony ASAP...anyone got any idea on how to deal with them?
