I am just getting started in capturing my own video and converting to SVCD (I've done lots of DVDs only). As a test, I captured directly off cable tv with my tv card and VirtualDub, to AVI format. Now I'm converting the AVI using TMPGEnc using the SVCD template. Since it appears the video is interlaced, I tried the De-Interlace at various settings. Not really knowing the difference, I tried Odd, Even, and Double, and in my opinion the Double setting gave me the best results, at least this time. My question is, is this the best way to be doing this? Is there a better setting, and would different settings be used on different captures? Or is there a way, or is it better, to de-interlace while I'm capturing? Also, will I need to de-interlace once I start capturing off my VHS tapes?
Thanks guys!
Dave

If you're converting to SVCD (or DVD or any other MPEG2 formats) do not de-interlace. MPEG2 supports interlaced video, just select "Interlace" for encode mode in the Video tab of TMPGEnc and it will retain its original 60 field/s images.
But if you insist on deinterlacing it for some reason, Double (adaptation) is the way to go.
