#1 i read on this site that tmpgenc audio encoder isn't really good and that it would be better to do a "layer 2" with toolame... Is it that bad? (audio isn't so important for me... if it is stereo and clear with no noise it's ok for me! ) If so do i need to do that operation anyway if before i did change the " vbr " to i don't remember what with virtualdub? (OK I ADMIT!there IS more than 1 question in my #1 question! )
#2 After i encode the .avi file to svcd, do i still have the original file on my hd or do i just have the new version of it? I also noticed that in tmpgenc in the first section of the wizard there is no 23.something fps option in svcd format! All the movies i have are 23 fps ntcs film... ????

  2. #1 I think what you're asking here is whether the audio convertor is any good in TMPGEnc? Well, personally I think it's fine, quality is as good as the source. However on some occasions I have had no audio, thus I've needed to extract the sound as a wav via VDub and re-encode this way.
So the round-a-bout answer is yes it's good, but it doesn't support all of the different encoded formats.

#2 When you encode an avi file into a SVCD you name the output file dont you? Well, if it is not the same as the source you won't overwrite it.

#2 1/2 I've never created an SVCD before but I'd imagine if you load the correct template it will have the correct fps setting. There is a way to unlock the set templates if you needed to alter the fps, but I cant remeber how (as I've never needed to)

You don't need to extract the sound just because its VBR, if the original AVI is junk free, then just use it in TMPGEnc with the sound.

Quit the wizard, just load a SVCD template and select your file.

TMPGEnc will handle any of the current audio formats without problems, MP3, AC3 just fine

You will still have the original, as TMPGEnc will refuse to read in and write out to the same file name.
