I have a Pioneer DVD-500M (16x DVD, 40x CD.) It works really well. It rips DVD's quite fast and audio cd's in like 3-5mins. I don't know if you can get it anymore though. I have seen some DVD-ROM drives listed as Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM OEM.

  3. Get the Lite-on 16x drive. It's not locked at 2x for CSS discs. I normally rip at 5-8x. Although for series (region 1 DVD-5) I got 11x ave and 15x max in DVD Decryptor

I got the Lite-on 16x dvd rom and it is great. It's quite and able to rip and read any dvd I through in there. I use clad and smartripper.

Price is also good too. You can find it online for about $37 at www.pricewatch.com

I heard LiteOn had high ripping speeds, but I don't know if it's a decent device. I mean every device works perfect while it's new, but will it still work after 6 months of ripping?

I have a Toshiba device for 2 years, not the fastest, but it still rips and works properly

I had a lot of reading problems with my previous Pioneer device. Probably specific problem to the device, but still...

  9. Here's another vote for the Lite-On. I've had my 163 for a while and never had a problem with it. Like others have stated, they are readily available and inexpensive too. A great perfomer, even greater value.
