BLACK BAND while Playing DVDs

I realized that almost like over 90% of the new DVD Movies came out is just geared in up for HDTV, I think this is why it has the Black Band on the screen while playback on PC/TV without HDTV compatiblities.

I just wanted to know why the Movie Industry made it this way instead of both ways? I went to FRY'S Electronics the other day, a fine HDTV started at $3K to $15K (an average family doesn't routine buy this kind of expensive TV).

Is there a way I can take the band off the screen and make it FULL?

If the movie industry put both a 4:3 full screen version and a widescreen version on the same disc, you will essentially lose half the disc capacity... i.e., lower quality DVD or loss of added material.

You don't need a HDTV, just a widescreen one.

As for making it full screen, this will involve chopping off the sides of a movie so there is a loss. Many DVD players will have a variety of zoom settings or 4:3 pan and scan mode. This will view the movie in full screen (but you lose part of the picture on the sides).
