  1. All i want to do is take my movies that i have on my hard drive --.mpg, .wmv, .avi and put them on a dvd that i can play on my set top dvd player. When I start my Nero exp it tells me to load the files , but the files have to be .ifo,.vob,.bup, or video_ts files . My question is how do I get these files ..nd if it is not a problem could some walk me through the basic dvd burning Thank You

  2. As one newbie to another all I can suggest is you start at the newbie guides in this website and read.

I don't think there is an easy straightforward way to explain quickly how you would do this.

You'll find alot of good advice and information on this website to help you do what needs to be done and if you get stuck along the way and need some help you can post a question on the forum.

    Good Luck

As someone who has been here for a while here are some tips

read the guides - sometimes a guide doesn't explain exactly what you want, but TRY to do something - often it looks like garbage - but you will learn something, after all unless your burning a CD-R or DVD-R then it's not costing you any money (only time)

search the forum - almost all questions you can think of have been answered already. Searching the forum is FREE and quick

Then if you can't find the answer in the forum post a question
with a short explanation of the problem. Not "Very Newbie" this helps nobody especially you since you (in many cases) won't get answered ( your lucky in this case).

By a short description I mean
"What are some recomended settings for encoding NTSC SVCD cartoons" or similar to this
This gives enough info for people who might have some ideas to assist you - and the wording implies that you have already tried some things yourself and are looking for some fine-tuning and you are dealing with US/Japanese Video ( NTSC )
You should find that people are quite willing to help with this problem based on the subject header

Hope this helps a little bit

  4. For total newbies I recommend DVD2SVCD. Despite the name it can also encode from AVIs; and it can encode to VCD, SVCD or DVD. It's a nice 'one stop' program.

As other have said read the guides here and at www.doom9.org for more info on using DVD2SVCD.
