  1. I have been trying any kind of setting, software, codec to get a good mpeg2 video stream but it seems that on the mac it is impossible. FFMpeg produces a very low quality mpeg2 stream even if I set bitrate to 7000 and qmin to 2... seems that mpeg2enc doesn't make a good job
I have also tried with tmpgenc on a pc with 1,6ghz athlon and I get superiour quality, faster encoding, more tools and easyer configuration of setting (with a good preview). Why? Isn't it possible to have a software like tmpgenc on the MAC??? Everything would be better doing mpeg compression... I hate all those unix like software that doesn't display any preview, any progress bar, any error message that a human can understand!

    Please help!

    Try Innobits BitVice.

It's the best mpeg2 encoder on Mac... But it's not free!

Other solution: Cleaner 6 (but It's very very slow... also on my dual G4!)

  3. I have just tried bitvice demo and it seems pretty good... tough it is not possible to set video clip aspect as it is possible in tmpgenc. I mean for example letterbox the image so you get 720x576 output but input is 720x400. Any other solution or hint? Thanks!!
