  1. Not sure if it's the disc quality, they are "Best Value" discs but I have watched a few just fine on a newer DVD Player that says it's DVD+R/-R compatiable and didn't skip and on some skip on my Apex

Is it disc quality or player quality

  2. probably a combination of both. Personally, I have the apex and the damn thing will play a cookie. All I can say is make sure the disc is totally clean. May need to clean the dvd lens???

You might want to be wary of any brand that says "best value" (right up there with GC = great quality)

I know, I got a spindle of 25 from Office Max for their KHapt(sp?) CD's since they were sold out but Office Max swore they were KH CD's but I doubt it.

  4. I use -- DVDSpeed -- from http://www.cdspeed2000.com/ to test my DVD's in a fast way. When the read and rpm curves are smooth it means that my DVD-rom has no problem reading the DVD.

If there are a lot of spikes in the curves, than those spikes are the problem areas on this particulary DVD. This is often at the end of the DVD or where someone has smuge it with his/her fingers.

When having large spikes, my standalone player often freeze or skips when at it reaches the bad areas.

I have found that burning a good DVD (spikeless), depends on:
    1. the burner and the (latest) firmware
    2. the quality of the DVDs
    3. speed (a lower speed in generalburns better)

I hope this helps you out.

    CU, Jem.
