I just happened to go by something showing the features of the HS2 and it mentions "commercial skipping." A user comment also mentioned being able to "do" this. Is this the "shortening" the segment editing, which is how I edit out the commercials after the fact, or is there some feature I'm not finding in that excellent user manual that does it during recording??![]()

It just means that it skips ahead in one minute increments, similar to many VCR's, except that it is instantaneous. Nothing as exotic as detecting what is a commercial and editing it out.

Hey NLE!
It isn't the segment editing. There is a button on the remote that skips ahead while playing the video, as POBox518 mentioned. I don't use the feature b/c when you do this you are more than likely missing a few seconds of the show when it starts playing after the commercials.
You aren't able to record broadcast TV without the commercials (atleast that I know of). I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how, b/c the sales rep at Circuit City told me it was possible. I think he just wanted to sale the unit and make the commision.
BTW, the "thank you" in the other post was appreciated. :P

!! And the difference between this and fast forward is????? Glad to know I wasn't being dense!
And you are quite really welcome, Tearren ... I was even able to determine the method is reproducibleA very important feature!

As pobox518 mentioned, the big difference between this and fast forward is that Panasonic's commercial skip is instantenous (ie, you jump 1 minute ahead instead of seeing fast moving scenes like you would see when you hit the fast forward button).
Put it in another way, it's like hitting the next track button on your CD player to instantenously jump to the next track instead of fast forwarding it and hearing chipmonk-voice until you hit the next track.
But the big question is, how accurate is Panasonic's commercial skip?
