Easier way to copy DVD's

At the minute to do DVD's I use DVD Decrypter - DVD2SVCD - DVDMaestro and nero to burn back onto a dvd-r disk, but the problem is that this way is time consuming and I was wondering if there is a program out there which will copy the entire dvd complete with menus, subs, extras even if its over 4.7gig and compress onto one dvd-r disk. I've tried Steinberg DVD Movie copy as this stated it compresses a dvd no matter what the size and compress it to fit onto one disk but it didn't.

I don't think there is an all-in-one software that re-encodes to fit onto one disc including menus, extras, etc,.
DvdXCopy will copy everything onto 2 discs if thats any use.

The all-in-one solution is to buy the darn thing Seriously, I don't think I would use a one click proggy to do this stuff. Ive found that Im (kicking & screaming) actually using some grey matter for a change

Not advocating/plugging any programs as several have worked for me quite well, (IFOedit especially), but my experience is that if the DVD is under the 4.3GB limit, DVDXCOPY is a one click solution. It will also tell you if the movie and menu will fit without extras on on disc. It will also tell you if the movie without menu will fit, (basically, DVD Dec and IFOedit process).

If the DVD is over, (DVD-9) DVDXCOPY will tell you the movie will be spanned across two DVDs and where the chapter break will be. You can then omit whatever extra material you don't want. Check their site at http://www.dvdxcopy.com

Seems slick but $100 for freeware, the Nero Engine and a GUI might be a little steep, added to the cost of media, time experimenting and more importantly a good burner.

Right now they are in beta for a Win9x/ME package and are looking for volunteers. It's a nice forum they have but it's a 48 hour waiting period to register and post if you have any questions.

If the DVD is under 4.3 gigs in size, DVDDecrypter can read the disc in, decrypt it, and then save it as an image file. You can then burn the image file to a DVD-R disc with DVDDecrypter, Nero, etc.

Really a simple solution, IF the DVD is small enough to begin with.

Agree, DVDxcopy is good for those DVDs you want to split to 2 disks, but for a 4.3 Gigger, you can do it cheap (free) and easy with DVD decryptor.

The Fun? If the process wasn't so damn time consuming I wouldn't mind. But it just takes so damn long. It also can be pretty expensive when you keep burning DVD's that dont work. What it comes down to is your time worth it? You can either buy the DVD at a store for $20-30 or spend 3-4 hours trying to get it on a DVD. Which isn't even including the time it takes to download the damn thing. If you had a second computer it wouldn't be so bad. because you entire computer is being held up during this period. than you have to defrag your system because of all the space and work it took to get it done. Riping DVD's is just not worth it. I would stick to useing CD's for SVCD's. I still waiting for the next Disc. I am hoping that what ever replaces new DVD is more compatable to computer movie files.

Why? Splitting and reconstructing the DVD is pretty easy. Use the guides on my page if you want to try it. (URL in my sig.)

Hopefully, you're doing something else rather than staring at the screen twiddling your thumbs during ripping/encoding/authoring/burning. One you learn the process, it's not so bad.
