No Sound

I downloaded some .avi files from Kazaa. When I play them, there is no sound. I put them in gspot and it says that I have the codecs for them. I cannot figure out how to get them to play so I can encode them. Any suggestions for an old lady that has read and read the forums but still cannot find the answer?

See if this works.
Uninstalled all DivX codecs and xvid codecs if you have,(Nimo Pack etc.)
You can then install xvid codecs from here:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

Then install all DivX codecs separat (Not from Nimo).
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html

After that install Nimo Pack but uncheck all divx codecs and the xvid codec and also uncheck a direct show filter which is Ffdshow DirectShow
Install Nimo from here:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html

Now all should work fine!

By the way,AC3 comes with the Nimo Pack and I installed this with
Nimo Pack Build 8,not the new Build 9.

Do you even have installed divx and xvidcodecs yet,if not just install evertying that I wrote in my first reply.

I did have some divx files installed. I found them and deleted the ones I had. Then I went and did what you told me. I had a very hard time finding the Nimo Pack as the links were not working, but I eventually found it, installed what was needed and everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help
