  1. I am experimenting with friends to capture from a Satellite reciever.

Is capturing to divx the best if the file is to be played back from a pc to a telly from the video card output?

What would be best format to capture to, with the intentions of converting to SVCD?

  2. DivX is not a capture codec. You should try to capture with an mjpeg codec or huffyuv, then after that convert it. Same codecs if you want to convert to other formats.

  3. I captured before with virtual dub right to divx and it works okay on my machine. http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxcap.htm

Are you saying it is better to use a mjpeg, or huffyuv avi and then convert for better quality?

Is capturing with mjpeg the same as capturing to mpeg 2 on my ATI TV Wonder card and Power VCRII or is that hardware mpeg encoding?

  4. It is possible to capture as DivX, but it is not intended for that. MJPEG will give better quality, and it will be a lot easier to edit. (same for huffy).

It is not the same thing than capturing as mpeg2 at all.
