  1. I have just written my first VCD using my Philips JR24CDRWK and Nero having converted my Mpeg and Quicktime files using TMPGE (I converted them to PAL as Im in the UK)

When i playback the disc on my Toshiba SD-210EB it recognises as a VCD but then seems to have a lot of trouble doing anything else. What are supposed to be menus never appear and the majority of clips on the disc are unwatchable as all I get is a screen full of large green and other colour scrambled blocks. Occasionally some of the clips do play but they seem to play for 2 seconds then take a break then jump on again.

As I am very new to this I dont have a clue which part of the process isnt working. Can anyone give me any ideas?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi
    I'm having the same problem.

I can play the encoded file through wundows media player but when I burn the file it will not play on my DVD (VCD compatable) player. I've tried buring at different speeds and even altered the saved file (.cue instead of MPEG) but all I get is "digital blocking". The audio however plays fine!!

  5. Just a thought (probably stupid).... could this problem be anything to do with the VCD's being written on CDRW's not just CDR's?

    Just an idea...

R u sure that u setting the correct stream type i.e. mpeg 1 vcd.
What method r u using also bitrates etc.
Also their is no need in 99% of cases to convert to pal as most modern DVD players convert NTSC to pal automatically

  7. I used TMPGenc and had it set to convert the clips to Video-CD PAL MPEG-1, 352x288, 25fps... They play back fine on my pc...

Is there a reason why I wouldnt even be able to see the menus on the VCD NERO creates too? I just get a screen of digital coloured blocks as soon as the VCD plays...

    Thanks

  8. In addition to this (in case it gives any more clues as to what Im doing wrong) when the VCD is in and playing, and the screen is full of digital blocking, the DVD timer display of seconds ticks over as normal, then sometimes speeds up, sometimes stops and then ticks over as normal again. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

Here's a silly question: have you looked at the file on your computer? Do you know it's a good conversion and looks good? At least you can decide if it's the DVD player or the file.

  10. Thanks for your reply - yes I checked the file out on the computer before it was written and it runs fine. Should I check out the copy on the VCD on the computer as well? Its the fact that the Nero menus dont appear that confuses me too..

  12. In case anyone else is having a similar problem, I solved it today and the only change i made was to use a CDR and not a CDRW. Everything runs fine now, pictures sound and menus.

    Thanks
