  1. Hi:

I want to burn home videos from my 8 mm digital SONY TRV310 to DVD-R.

I have a cendyne 4x (rebadged pioneer dvr-105), win xp, and three firewire ports. I also have dazzle software to import footage to HD, but no idea how to burn on DVD-R (which software) so that I can watch DVD on my set top player (SONY, Apex). I also plan to buy dvdxcopy, but I guess that is for DVD-to-DVD copy, not 8MM-to-DVD copy. Thanks a lot in advance!

  2. It very depends on what would you like to do with your Digital8 capture. I personaly split process to these steps:

    1. Capture (get video to PC)
    2. Edit (trim and combine scenes, transitions, titles....)
    3. Convert (from whatever you captured to DVD compliant mpeg2)
    4. Author (create DVD menu and convert to VOB files and VIDEO_TD dir)
    5. Burn (copy VIDEO_TS dir with files to DVD that can be played in DVD player)

I use Pinnacle Studio 8 for all steps except burning

see here : Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing

and right now I am working on list of all programs that can be used for this

  3. Thanks for your reply. I looked at the table you have created and I am wondering if Pinnacle Expression can do the job (its cheaper than pinnacle 8). All I need to do is upload to HD from teh camcorder, and burn it on DVD using DVDxCOPY I will be buying soon.

In other words, for steps preceding burning, can I use Pinnacle expression instead of pinnacle 8? Thanks!
