Apart from slowing down the encoding process, can I damage the mpeg in any way if I open other windows (i.e. surf the www, d/l email, etc) while TMPGEnc is encoding? I assume not since TMPGEnc does have a priority setting, but just wanted to confirm.

No, it won't effect the quality of the output file but it will slow down your encoding process. :P

If while performing those other tasks you crash, you will loose the file TMPGEnc has done so far
