All of the discs I've burned just have pixelations like crazy. Can't make out anything on the screen at all.
I'm converting files with TMPGEnc to MPEGs. I've even just tried burning the dat files from factory pressed VCDs I have. After the conversion, the MPEGs look fine on the Windows Media Player. But after they're burned to a disc they're illegible. And after they're burned, they won't play on the Windows Media Player anymore either.
I've tried both Adaptec 4.0 and VCDEasy. No dice. Just toast.
Please tell me I'm a goofus and just doing one thing fundamentally wrong. I'll be so happy.![]()

Take a look at the guides section on the left, I use smartipper, dvd2avi and then tmpgenc and burn with recordnow dx
I dunno...it might work -
have you tried a factory pressed VCD in your player? does it work?
if so, then try burning the mpeg's with nero.
if not, then i'd say there's something up with your player..Swim with me
And we'll escape
All the trouble

Sounds a little like a problem i was having recently, can you give any better details than that? (or a screenshot, even
EG bitrates, burn speed, cetera and et.
For one thing you may want to try buying some really classy CDRs (or maybe just the one) and burning your disc as slow as the drive will allow.. or a different encoder / burner program.

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
1. Check the Storebought disc in your Player
2. Do a "DiscCopy" of the whole disc with Nero, using same burner and media.
3. Test the copied disc in you Player
Did they play the same? If not, it's a problem with your player recognizing either Burned CD's in general or that media in specific.
If they do play the same, Nothing's wrong with the above components, it's just how you are extracting and re-authoring that's the problem.
Try this:
Extract with VCDGear (.DAT -> .MPEG), or
Reverse compile with VCDxRip (part of VCDImager)--for GUI, used Vitualis' tool!
This way you should have std MPEG files to work with. Then author, using the correct tools (following some of the guides on the left).

Hi!
Thanks so very much for the replies and offers of help.
My standalone player does play CDRs. I can use the "Disc Copy" function on the Adaptec 4.0, copy a factory pressed VCD, and play it just fine in the standalone player. No problems there.
It's just when I convert a file with the TMPGEnc to MPEG for burning to VCD that everything just spazzes out. I can play the file after TMPGEnc coding fine in the Windows Media Player, no problem there. But whenever I try to burn it to a VCD disc it won't work on the standalone player.
With the Adaptec 4.0, I at least get a screen full of colorful squares, nothing I can actually look at or watch though. With the VCDEasy it just can't seem to get the burned VCD going at all.
Is it possible the encoding with TMPGEnc will work fine on a PC with Windows Media Player but be unacceptable on a VCD? With the Adaptec 4.0 VCD maker, the program won't accept a file unless it is compatible. So I think the files are encoded correctly.
Also, I tried both NTSC and PAL encodings for the VCD. Neither worked.
Any more suggestions?
I'd really like to get into VCD burning. I bought this new standalone for that very reason.
