No dolby 5.1 is not supported on vcds or svcds. svcd does support multichannel mpeg audio which is identical in quality to dolby digital and can contain the discrete 5.1 channels, however this is really just a theoretical function because it is questionable whether there is even a single hardware combination which can play it.

The best you can do with both vcds and svcds is to do a surround sound downmix and play it back in prologic.

  3. I do multichannel. And it plays perfectly for me.
I use the VSX908RDS pioneer amp to decode the audio.

  4. I only have seen solutions using linux to create multichannel audio. But it seems there is a solution using Sonic Sonudry Forge...
Anyway I never tried, but as I only use my SVCDs in a Panasonic Audio Decoder DD/DTS, I really believe it can fully decode this kind of audio.
whopp tell us how do you create it?

Some german people, riped some AC3 satellite transmissions from Premiere World ( a digital satellite package),by using a nokia dbox1 receiver and a program called DVBRecorder 1.07alha. That produced an mpeg 2 file, which they split it to m2v and Ac3, then encode only the m2v to SxVCD (or other format..) and then re-mux the new m2v file with the ac3. They create a mpeg file with dolby digital audio.
They burn it with nero as SVCD and that xSVCD could be played by yakamaka players...
I didn't saw it, I read it and just report it....

That seems to be simply a theory, the playback part. You can multiplex an AC3 audio stream onto an M2V video stream, but if you manage to burn it to xSVCD and your player plays it and recognizes the Dolby Digital audio, it will more than likely downmix it to stereo. Seeing as Dolby Digital audio files are essentially the same size as their counterpart MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio file cousins, you may as well spend the extra 15 - 20 minutes and compress your audio to SVCD's standard.

  7. In fact it is basically a theory, the majority of receivers & standalone players do not have mpeg-2 multichannel decoding built in...remember just like DD, one of the 2 must have a decoder built in in order to work properly...so like stated before, mist likely it is getting downmix to regular Dolby Surround not multichannel nor dolby digital in terms of being with a SVCD.
