Pioneer 104, burn cheap media 2X

My Pioneer 104 drive had firmware V1.2 new. It burned cheap media (Ritek and such) at 1X. I updated to V.1.32. Still burned at 1X. I update to V1.4, still burned cheap media at 1X. Then I found a hack. I downgraded to V 1.2 as a post suggested then applied the hacked firmware update V1.4. Now my Pioneer 104 will burn cheap media at 2X. All the tools were found at this link.

Has anyone else tried this? I'm wondering if there is a downside. There must be a reason Pioneer doesn't supply this firmware enhancement.

The downside is the outer edge of the disk will proberly not burn properly and the disk will not play the last 1/4 or so of the film

This is what happened for me any way on Infinity(ritek G03) and diskplanet (Ritek G03)

And they are good media i have yet to find any disk that will burn properly at 2X

Hey all

I have used the firmware at http://www.firmwares.co.uk/ and now burns 2X on cheap MMORE discs. Could not burn 2X with Pioneer firmware 1.40.

My disks plays fine to the end.

Have burned 5 disk so far,..

You got me worried there so I just checked the disks and played the last chapter. OK.

An update: I have now backed up 3 DVD movies with the hacked firmware update V1.4. from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/sccs.ltd/pioneer2x4all/

No problems as yet!

I am using the hacked 1.40. Had to downgrade first since I already had upgraded to 1.40 from Pioneer.

You will find the downgradeable bios on the same site.

Hey smurfpacker, i flash with 1.33 to my a04, alittle while back,
i use princo's and they always worked, but i give they drive
away,and bought a 105, but arent any frimware hacks yet
for that drive, i dont think....

But ive solved it now I got a copy of record now max 4.5 and been burning at 2X no problem on the same disks, It must have been Nero causeing the trouble, For me anyway

That software downgrade (for firmware) was a godsend i feel sorry for all the people that buggered there drives trying to do the hardware fix
