  1. I hope that someone can help me. I am using TMPGEnc to convert an AVI to an MPG. I have converted two of three files, but the third one keeps freezing TMPGEnc up. I have changed the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increased the priority to 1 and 2, and this did not help. It freezes in the same place. I have also converted the audio to a wav file using VirtualDub before encoding. Freezes in the same place. I tried repair using DivXFix, but it would not read the file. And lastly, I tried to use VirtualDub and avidefreezer to fix my video source, and it found no errors. The avi plays fine on windows media player. I am out of ideas. Can anybody help me?

It sounds like you have a bad frame. Download V_Dub MP3 as it creates a log of all the bad frames it finds. Here's a guide that can help:

  3. Thanks CoMpUtEr PhReAk. I dled V_Dub MP3 and checked my file, but it didn't find any errors. So, I figured out how to delete the frame where it kept freezing using VDub, and then it converted just fine. Thanks anyway for your help!

    Sometimes this works

    Audio > direct stream copy
    Video > direct stream copy

    Save AVI (move2.avi)

Any little glitches will be fixed.
