  1. I'm trying to convert and mpeg2 file (SVCD) to a mpeg1 file (VCD).

Before I started, I did the VCD header trick to see if it would work, but...
I've tried the VCD header trick but for some reason, only around 20% of the mpeg2 file gets converted (ie. if mpeg2 file is 700 MB, after VCD header trick the file is only 200 MB)..does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this? (I used TMPGenc 2.59 to do this)

After, I followed the forums on how to convert mpeg2 to mpeg1, I went to MPEG tools in TMPGenc and went to simple demultiplex and followed the instructions creating a .m2v and .mp2 file, but when I try to load the .m2v file in the video source, TMPGenc doesn't accept it even though I have the VFAPI plugin... does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

Or is there even an better easier way to convert mpeg2 to mpeg1 that I overlooked? Thank you so much for you help (I'm a newbie to all this, if that's not obvious)

  2. Hi

    the header trick

Start TMPGenc and close the wizard.
Goto Mpeg tools and select MULTIPLEX
    Add your MPEG2 -> change the MPEG-2 program(VBR) to MPEG-1 Video-CD (non standard)

Then give a file name and place to save and press run.

If i read your posting right then u mixed up "Simple-multiplex"and "multiplex".

The discribed routing above worked perfectly for me.

    Succes......

  6. i originally done my movie in forced film when i did a test sample in mpeg 2 then converted it using above method some of the bottom half of the movie was cut off, like the top had shifted down? Is that because of the forced film feature making it 23 fps rater than the normal?

With Nero u use VCD and after the file checking u disable the "standard compatability" and continue.

Be sure to burn it on a CD-RW for testing on your DVD player, if it runs OK, burn it to a CD-R.

    That's all.

    Succes.

I dunno if the forced film part has enything to do with that, try to make ur movie without it and try it out.

Another thing could be that your DVD player isn't buying the header trick.

  10. i tried the header trick and still the picture does not fit! Its like to big?

  11. If the size of your movie is over 800 MB it won't fit.
Just split it up if neccesary, otherwise try lowering the bitrate.

  16. no i treid the unlock in the template and used 480x480, but even when doing the header trick i get the same result?

  17. Let's start from the top again.

U've got a SVCD that u wanna play on the standalone DVD player.

Depending on the source movie, the only thing that u should do is the header trick, if this doesn't work it could be that your DVD player just won't be fooled by the trick.
Try looking in the DVD player list if yours accept the trick.

(U also need to know what kinda movie u got meaning : ntsc or Pal, and depending of where u live u need to convert that or (if ur lucky) not converting at all.)

Another option is that u could convert the movie to a standard VCD, then the header trick isn't neccesary at all, if your source movie is good quality
then the result in VCD could very well be acceptable fot you.

  19. what about sound, is dual channel better than stereo and does 224 soud less then 320 kbs?, I noticed some other programs make the sound better , like seperation and more surround?

  20. I never played around with the sound, i'm happy with ordinary stereo.

However, if u raise the bitrate for sound you will have to lower bitrate for the video.

TMPGEnc can't read mpeg2, so if you want to reencode a SVCD mpeg to a VCD mpeg, (MPEG2 to MPEG1) you must have PowerDVD installed (trial will work fine) to enable TMPGEnc to read MPEG2.
