  1. I haven't found anything about this encoder on the site, maybe I've just missed it. I've been trying to use tmpgenc with nothing but problems that have been stated elsewhere, & so I decided to try something else.
I can't figure out how to split the file & encode only half at a time so it'll fit on 2 cds. Is it possible & how do I get to it please?

  2. With TMPGEnc, you can set the source range.

No one talks about Xing anymore because it is a poor quality MPEG encoder (for VCDs) and is commercial.

  5. I'm not certain what kind of files you are trying to split. But I have had excellent results with TMPGE splitting long MPEG1 (VCD) files into two sections. Since you mention splitting in half, I thought you might be also working with VCD's. The trick is to convert the entire file into one long Mpeg 1 file first. Then go into TMPGE under: File> MPEG Tools > Merge and Cut. Detail directions can be found on this web site. But the GUI at this pont is very similar to Virtual Dub and simple once yo realize the { symbol is begin point select and } symbol means end point select. Use the slider to select the approximate cut point and then click on the the forward > and reverse < arrows to nudge the frame to the exact spot before clicking the begin clip '{' or end clip '}'.
    Hope this helps.

  6. As I wrote in my original post, I cannot use tmpgenc as I've had nothing but problems with it that are documented elsewhere in painful detail. Not even anyone in the advanced conversion section could figure what was up with it & my computer, & no one ever replied to my post in the beginning section so I gave up on it.
My problems are spelled out in exhausting detail in the following post:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=134004&highlight=

I've resigned myself to having to restore the computer to original settings & reloading all my software again.

Yes, I'm trying to make vcds & I was able to do so at first with tmpgenc, but now it will not delete the previous job & just keeps adding the new stuff on top of it. I'm too exhausted to go thru it all again, but please, anyone, read about all the horrible details at the post given above.

maybe this would work: load TMPGEnc template: unlock.mcf (C:\Program Files\tmpg\Template\Extra)

  8. Nope, doesn't work.
Templates are fine, it's the old file that it won't release & that doesn't do anything for it.

It kinda sounds like a configuration file has been write protected. I don't really know!!!
you mentioned already uninstall-install TMPGEnc, try uninstall it again then if the old file are still there, can you delete it from windows? if not, try from safemode command prompt (f8 option) in winxp, if it won't delete the file you'll need bootdisk, to make one you'll need this freeware:
    http://www.hellasystems.de/ftp/Utilities/BootDisk/DrDos70/drdflash.exe

what version tmpgenc? maybe it's a bug try newer version

    hope this helps

  10. I've uninstalled it & used McAffee Uninstaller & Fix-it utilities to clean up what I could.
    What do you mean by:
"then if the old file are still there, can you delete it from windows?"
Which file are you refering to & delete from where?
I'm a bit confused by this whole boot disk thing, can you elaborate further?
Also, had the newest as far as I can tell 2.59.47.155.
