having trouble converting svcd to vcd

I have been sent a mess of svcd's by a friend and i have a player that plays vcd's but not svcd's. so i have tried to use tmpge to change this but when i do that my audio and video are out of synch i dont know for sure what i am doing wrong or if i am using the wrong programs all together. Anyone who can advise a newbie on this would be greatly appreciated. I am at a total loss here.
