  1. Hi,
I have some MPEG2 (with .mp2 ext) files captured with an ATI AIW card. I am trying to use TMPG to convert these to VCD compliant MPEG1 files (I don't really want to do the work for SVCD, nor do I even know how), but when I try to open up the mpeg2 file in TMPG it says non supported format.

Do I need to do something else with these files to convert them to a VCD format? Thanks!

Just change the file extension from MP2 to MPG. I think TMPGEnc is thinking your video file is an audio file.

Hmm. I just tried that and it still reads as unsupported when I try and open it in TMPG.

As far as I know, ATI AIW MPEG-2 files have a .mp2 extention (for any strange reason). Nevertheless it is a MPEG-2 file. Open it in dvd2avi and proceed as you would do with dvd files. In TMPG load a Video-CD template to end with a VCD compliant MPEG-1.

  5. I have been doing exactly that for a while now. I have an Athlon 1.2G with 356Megs, 80GB 7200 UDMA100 HD, and a ATI AIW Radeon. Just change the .mp2 to .m2p, and like the nice man said, use dvd2avi to change it into a form TMPGenc can recognize. Your audio will come out as .mpa.

I can capture a one hour TV show as MPEG-2 and use TMPGenc to edit out the commercials (use source range under settings, advanced) and save using Sefy's SeVCD template, and I get outstanding results.

My only complaint is my Panasonic DVD-LV55 won't put the VCD picture full screen on it's widescreen LCD without zooming, which thrashes the picture quality!

Thanks! That worked great. I can't believe I missed the DVD2AVI article on this site.
