I currently have the ATI Rage Fury Pro and am able to capture great quality using Huffy upto a resolution of 640x480 (any higher and I start dropping frames). I just purchased a dvd burner and would like to start capturing at a higher resolution. As I see it I have a few options:

    1. Upgrade to hardware mpeg2 encoder and capture compressed video directly. This will save on encoding time and hd space.

    2. Upgrade cpu and MoBo to capture mpeg2 using the Rage Fury Pro and a software compressor. Will this also allow me to capture in uncompressed at higher resolution (720x480) with the ATI card? and if so...

    3. Buy large capacity hd (120 GB). This method will require me to encode which currently is a very long time .

    My current system config follows:

    750 MHz AMD Athlon
    ASUS MoBo (K7V ??)
    40 GB capture HD
    ATI Rage Fury Pro
    384 MB SDRAM

Any suggestions as to which of these options will provide the greatest bang for the buck and greatest increase in capture ability. Also any and all suggestions as to the proper equipment to upgrade to for each of the options will be appreciated. Thanks

Since no one has answered you yet, I'll put my two cents in.
Upgrade the cpu (maybe mobo too) and the hard drive. If you are
capping in AVI you will need the larger (120gig) hard drive. Try to get the hard drive with the 8meg buffer and 7200rpm.
