There's just no way this could be a VCD, it has to be a SVCD. The mpeg1 standard doesn't even support soft encoded subs. I suppose its possible that it is an mpeg2 file with an mpeg1 file header burnt as a non-standard VCD, but my guess is that it is just a SVCD. Where did you get it from? Many dvd players will still disply "VCD" even when playing a SVCD.

  5. I played a VCD on Pioneer DV333
VCD was created using hardware Video Disk recorder.

While recording VCD from DVD I turned off SUBTITLE on DVD.
After recording I played VCD on DVD player and turned Title ON on TV.

I surprised. Subtile is available for whole length.

I turned subtitle off on TV. It was not displayed.

So i concluded VCD has subtitle that can be controled on TV.

Tonight I will check using DVD remote control

I have tested VCD and VCD

Sounds like closed-captioning. Since closed caption information is included as part of the video signal (I think it's part of the noise you see at the very bottom when you capture or view on a computer) a hardware VCD recorder would copy it (as will a VCR). For that matter, when I tape something off cable with my VCR I generally get the channel and show name displayed on the TV.
