    I have the same setup - Sony Dru-500a and ME320 external enclosure, Win2000. It's connected to a P3-450 laptop. I have not tested it too much. So far, I have been able to packet write (+RW), copy a CD, but have not been able to play a dvd using PowerDVD. I get a blue screen of death and instant reboot. Have you had problems with this?

    Oh yeah, I am using the firewire port. The enclosure has firewire & USB 2.

    I have FireWire only and works fine with Win2000 laptop.
