  1. I created my first 2 DVD's in DVDit. I was so tired of the chapter system and overall navigation, I decided to give DVD Workshop a shot.

I am very impressed with the overall functionality. I have 2 main questions I guess:

    1) I have 2 clips of video. Each clip as 2 chapters.
When I burn the DVD and watch it on a my standalone player, I can navigate using chapter points within the clip, but not move forward to the next clips chapter points.

I would like to be able to jump ahead to each subsequent chapter, and then at the end of the clips chapters, move on the clip number 2 chapter 1. Is this possible?

    2) When I burn a DVD in DVDit, I put aprox. 120 min of video captured from my DV Camcorder. When I attempt to burn a DVD from Workshop, it wants me to select low quality in order to burn 120 min of video. Is the quality burned from DVDit and Workshop identical?

    Thanks for any input

  2. When you drag seperate mpegs into DVD workshop it creates new titles, which are different to chapters. Some DVD players can navigate through titles with the next and back button, others cannot. I think the only option is to create a menu which allows you to select the titles.

With any DVD authoring program, its best to not let the program re-encode your mpeg files as the quality will always be worse than the original. Also, its easier to keep control of the number of minutes on each disc. DVD Workshop has a checkbox in the create DVD window that switches off re-encoding. If you don't see this option then you should upgrade to version 1.3.

  4. This may not solve your problem, but, if you right click on the movie within workshop (right click on the clip shown in the bottom right hand corner), you get an option as to the way it behaves after playing the clip. It defaults to returning to the menu, but you can select to go onto the next clip/title instead. try setting your first clip to have this option, it may work.

  6. Thanks for the replies! Great forum by the way.

As I recall, I did that right click thing and set the behavior of the clip to move to the next clip. If I watch the the movie without pressing forward, the first clip ends and the next clip starts up. I just cannot forward across clips. I guess the solution would be to combine the clips in Vegas and render as one mpg.

I'm kinda new at this, so bare with me If I use Vegas (or any other rendering tool) to render an mpeg2, The DVD authoring tool does not and should not rerender it? I'm not sure what DVDIt did, but it took about 45 min to create the 2 folders for a 2 hour DVD.

One last question if I may. I created one menu with a full motion background. I deselected the menu timeout option and selected motion menu and motion background. The only times in the drop down are 1 and 5 seconds. It does not allow me to type any other number. I am using DVD Workshop 1.0 full version.

Thanks again for all the great help

  7. You should be able to select any time in the full version. The 1 and 5 seconds are limitations of the trial version.
