    Don't forget a little known competitor called Vegas Video 3 by Sonic Foundry. This program is superior to the two you mentioned IMHO, and costs less. Also, SF is on the verge of releasing Vegas 4, which will have 5.1 surround and DVD Authoring built into the Pro edition. For now, I'd suggest at least trying the demo. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
