  1. Any help on these points would be really appreciated folks.

Firstly I live in the Uk, do I need to convert to Pal although my dvd can play either ntsc or pal. Most of the sources are NTSC

    2. The dvd rip that i "attempted" to convert was framed at 14 frames per sec...as all the ones that i have tried..however I was expecting 29.97 as per the info on the site?

    3. The avi on my computer was ok, however by the time i had encoded it using tmpgenc and burned to nero it was watchable but quite blocky.

I read one of the posts about download divx codec , how would I do this and would it be any use to me?

    4. Finally (sorry) ... if the quality of source is good , I take it the vcd should be of roughly the similar quality...Do i have to check wich kind og avi file i use ( ihave not done this) and use the audidub program?

    Any help guys and girls

    Thanks

1: try it first my dvd will play ntsc but my tv doesn't like it, black and white only, so you may need to convert to PAL I do, also in UK

2: 14 frames per sec, probably taken from a camcorder, a lot of screeners are like this, u sure its a DVD rip?

3: blocky, do u mean purple blocks, if so in TMP go to options environmental settings VFAPI plugins and up the Direct Show Multimedia File Reader to 2 not -2

Get all Divx and xvid codecs and install them from the tools section of this site

  3. Thanks for the reply.

No the picture is ok but blocky.
It is just grainy and blocky but you can still watch the film,
however the original is perfect..and so far i have been supposedly using dvd rips.

I found that it was 14 f/s by looking at the properties of the avi file.
All the files that I have got so far say 14....am I checking it correctly?
    I am on XP

You suggest I Get all Divx and xvid codecs ..where do I put them when i download them...daft question..but i don't know

The Divx installer will load the codecs in the correct location so you can use them - don't worry about it

If your DVD player and as narked suggested make sure your TV supports the different modes then DON'T convert them - converting to a different standard mean re-encoding and that almost always means quality loss - of course if your TV lets you down.... you may not have any choice in the matter.

For correcting the blocks you could try a higher bitrate or maybe 2 pass encoding to try and remove those blocks

What u using to get frame rate properties? Its unlikely theyre dvd rips at 14fps. Get a copy of virtual dub and open your avis with that. then go to file-file information gives loads of info...........

  6. Thanks

I was told by another member that it is probably a film with half the frames missing i.e 29/2...hence the poor quality...Would that be right....half the movie was only 120MB avi file
