I've just created my first dvd-r, ripped from an original dvd.
    Oh my goodness!
I only did the first twenty minutes, and stayed around the 4000kb/sec mark and wow!
What a difference over the scvd/vcd I'd been doing.
I'm using Virtualdub to capture and CladDVD, DVD2Avi and then TMPGEnc Plus to encode, and envisage getting around two hours of high quality per dvd-r.
Can I expect a signififcant loss in quality by sqeezing three hours on a dvd-r?
Much in the same way as I didn't like to span more than two disks when creating vcd/svcd, I'm prepared to scarifice some quality to fit my movies on one dvd-r.
    Thanks,
    Will

    Thanks for the post
I'd be interested to lean how long your encoding time is with LOTR using cce.
Whilst I find TMPGEnc superb the encoding time is a little long, although I'm expecting a significant inprovement going from a Duron 800 to an Athlon XP2000+.

  4. i am only guessing cause i leave it running while i am in bed.

so saying that, doing a 2 vbr pass it should take no more than 7 hours thats using dvd2dvdr which needs cce 2.5 and ifoedit95.

when i wake i have a new m2v file, an ac3 file, a subtitle file and a chapter file if you require them.
    all done automatically.

With my Duron 800, If I remember correctly, it was taking about three hours per one hour of film. I'll check out what difference my XP2000+ makes tonight.

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying it's all done automatically for you?
I have to open CladDVD to rip to hard drive (step 1), then I have to open DVD2Avi to convert VOB's to m2v and ac3 (step 3), then I have to open TMPGEnc to create my dvd mpeg2 file and finally (step 4) I have to burn to dvd-r using Ulead Movie Factory (Nero gave me an error message yet Ulead MF creatd it fine first time).
    Everything is done individually.
Are you saying steps 1 to 3 (everything before burning to dvd-r) are done for you automatically when you set them before you go to bed?
You only have to burn to dvd-r?
    Many thanks,
    Will

So all this time I've been individually starting each programme, and I didn't need to?
