  1. Hope someone can help. I finally managed to encode a dvd rip to svcd with TMPGenc. Now when I go to cut it into manageable sizes, It always seems to hang at the end. I have plenty of HD space so I know its not due to insufficient space. I tried cutting just 8 minutes of the movie, but the file I got was an .m2p or .mp2 something like that, but the original file still reads as an MPEG (even though the encode process to SVCD went fine). WinonDVD did not recognize it nor did WMP7.1, but when I ran it through Nero to supposedly burn it, Nero didn't complain about it being non compliant.
I tried using M2Edit but it sucks.

  2. what are you using to cut the mpg? the easiest way would probably be to use tmpgenc's cut/merge tool in MPEG TOOLS. just add the mpeg, click on edit, then select the range to cut and the output file name.

I'm guessing your using TMPGenc to cut. If so that explains the hang. Just keep waiting, TMPGenc always seems to hang while cutting mpeg2 files, at least for me anyway. Wait a reasonable amount of time to be sure its really locked up.

Anyway if TMPGenc is really a very poor choice for cutting mpeg2 files. Its slow, causes really weird results sometimes, and actually produces non-compliant mpeg2 files. Save yourself the frustration and just get the latest version of bbmpeg and look around on this site for the guide on how to cut with it. bbmpeg is by far the best mpeg2 cutting tool and will produce compliant files, unlike TMPGenc.

  4. You need to select the right *Type* before doing your merge/cut. If you plan to burn your mpeg1 files later on to vcd, you should choose "MPEG-1 VideoCD" as the type. Otherwise, there's a great chance your cd writer software can't read the result.
