Greetings! I just bought a digital camera few months ago and im new to video editing. Currently, i only capture my video by using Adobe Premier and encoding it into mpeg format using TMPGEnc so that i can burn it as a VCD using Nero.
I recently tried using Adobe Premier to edit my videos(for example, brightness, contrast...) but i found out that everytime i need a preview, i need to wait for a very long time for Adobe Premier to edit it frame by frame. Is there any faster way to get a preview.
I also would like to know about encoding video files from avi format to mpeg. On average for a 40 minutes avi file, it takes me about 4 to 5 hours to encode. Is it normal because of my pc specs? Are they any way to make it faster?
Recently i purchase a TV-card. Is a WinFast TV2000 XP. Is it a capture card? I capture my video by using a NEC firewire card. What is the difference if i have a capture card. Does my encoding or capturing get any faster or better?
Im using a Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV230E. Pentium III 866Mhz, 512MB PC-133, 50GB HDD.

In Premiere brightness, contrast, etc., etc., come under the generic heading of filters and because each pixel of each frame has to be re-calculated they are processor intensive. The same is true for encoders.
As a rough guide doubling your processor speed will halve your rendering and encoding times.
Regards.
