  1. hi, I've created a vcd using TMPGEnc and burnt it using Nero (on a philips jackrabbit external cd writer at 4x). When I tried to play it on my Philips 711 dvd player, it reached halfway and then stopped. I tried again, fastforwarding to the point it stopped, and it played further but still dropped out later.

What could be the cause of this? poor quality of the CDR I've used (Verbatim colour disc Super Azo), the way I encoded it, or the dvd player itself?

Assuming it's a mix of the above (weak player and poor discs), can this be improved on in either the encoding or burning?

    thanks in advance,
    nik

have you checked the output mpg from TMP? run it in windows media, if at the point your movie stops you see it going weird in media player then it's corrupt data, (Did you ceck the original avi file for errors with virtualdub?) if it plays fine at that point and all way through it's burnt incorrectly (occassionally happens) try reburning, use a cdrw so as not to waste discs
