I was wondering if there was a program that would limit the amount of cpu speed a program could use so that if i was encoding a movie, i would still be able to use my computer for normal surfing, chatting, etc.. I'm running windows 2000 service pack 3. I was also thinking that there might be a way to change the priority of processes in windows 2000 that would help solve my problem..
Thanks for your help.

hi m8,
i know that there is a way to put priorities on programs with windows xp, and so i am almost sure that it is poss with win 2k.
try going into the task manager and right clicking (u know, press control, alt & delete once)
hope this is of help although i doubt it was! -
If you are using TMPGenc, goto Option on the top menu bar and select task priority, then select the two descriptions that suit your situation best.
-
- Right-click your task bar and click Task Manager
- Click the Processes tab
- Right-click the name of the process of your encoder
- Select "Set Priority" and then select the lowest setting.
Cheers,

Great, thanks guys, i can use all your suggestions. When i try the task manager priority change, it says "WARNING: Changing the priority class of this process may cause undesired results including system instabliity. Are you sure you want to change the priority class?" with a yes/no option. Did anyone ever have a problem with this? i'm halfway through an encode, and i don't want to screw it up and start over.
Thanks again.
