  1. Hello,
I have a 5131 Apex player, and it's starting to do some funny things. Every so often, I'll put a REAL (not copied) into the player, and it starts skipping through the movie.
For example, I was watching Tombstone. As I was watching it, I noticed the colors on the screen would start to seperate (like you could see a faint blue and red image next to the original), it would jitter once, play for about a second, then all of a sudden pause for a second or two, and then continue playing. About 10 to 15 seconds later, it started doing the same thing. I would keep doing this anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. You get pretty sick of it after a few, but I figured maybe it was the disk, since it was the only one that did that. Then I would watch another movie, that played just fine. So I stuck Tombstone back in, still the same thing. Watched a couple more movies just fine, then a couple of nights ago, I put Rules of Engagement in, and the player started to do this same thing to this movie.
Has anyone else had something like this? Are these symptoms of the DVD player going bad? I just got it about 5 months ago, and I have a hard time believing it's crapping out on me already (but with electronics, anything can happen). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you resolved this 5131 issue?
I've begun the same skipping problem this week.
Most of my VCD or SVCD will now skip towards the end of each disk no matter the filesize. I'm hoping that a cleaner will resolve this, but what have you seen the problem to be?

  3. I actually couldn't get it to stop skipping, so I went and exchanged it for the same model. I never cleaned my model before, but now I have started cleaning it all the time. I don't know if it was not being cleaned that caused the problem, or if it's a bad unit (which I hope it's not because I do like it). So, I don't know if you can or not, but I would try to exchange it. Let me know if the cleaning works. If it does, maybe I'm on the right track with this new one. Thanks.

  4. I can't help you, except to tell you that I have had a unit since the summer and that has never happened to me. I even used the hack on the rom chip, and it plays fine.
