  1. I have an intermittent problem w/ the DRU500 using Xcopy that I hope someone knows how to fix.

I used Xcopy just fine for making backups of my DVD's for about a week before I upgraded to 1.0f f/w on the Sony DRU500. Now I'm getting an error about 50% of the time from Xcopy after I have copied the source DVD to my HD. When I insert the blank media to start the burn process, Xcopy gives an error stating that it's "waiting for disk to be inserted". It ejects the tray and won't recognize any disk media until I restart Xcopy.

I've uninstalled Xcopy a couple of times and reinstalled it, but I still get the error. Maybe I should go back to 1.0d f/w. Anyone have a copy I can get?

    Thx.

  2. Try to burn with RecordNow (came with drive, or update to DX which is downloadable from Sony's web).

  3. don - where on their site? I haven't found it yet.

As far as orig question - make sure you have decent media. Reports are Princos sometimes don't work. You might try 1.0d firmware also.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  4. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I just found this item on the 321 Studios forum as a possible fix for the exact issue described above. I'm trying it now...

    Results to follow.

I think that there is to much data for the disc to copy. On the screen where it shows you at which chapter the movie is going to be split reduce it by one. For example if it is 18 make it 17. No guarantees, but that could be your solution. Good luck, and have a happy new year!

    You have solved the problem!
I did just what you said and decreased the chapter count for the first disk and it worked perfectly.
    Can't thank you enough.

I had reviewed the forum messages several times and found all sorts of potential problems -- ranging from the need for a firmware upgrade to removing other CD/DVD writing programs to all sorts of technical Windows bs I couldnt understand.

To be honest I had my doubts about your simple solution - but it worked !

    Again my thanks
