hey all !
i've tried to backup my first dvd...using dvd decrypter, but i'm affraid i still have a problem with the size !
is there any way to re encode vob files ? the thing is,i don't want to put it on 2 dvd because those files are 4.8gb !!!
is there any software to do so,or if not what can i do to have this movie on 1 dvd ?
(i thought i could rip the original dvd into DivX,and then, reencode it to mpeg2 dvd, is it ok ?)

You DEFINATELY do not want to reencode to DivX and then reencode to DVD.
My first question.. are there any extras on the DVD that you do not mind getting rid of? Do you want to keep the original Menus? Do you need the subtitles? If you do want subtitles, do you want all of them that are on the DVD? (meaning all of the different languages) Do you need every audio track on the DVD? (again, all the languages and commentary)
You are close to having that DVD fit on 1 DVD.. so you just need to either get rid of a few things (extras, audio track, subtitles, etc) or you need to reencode the movie a bit smallter
If you do not mind losing the menus.. you can use DVD2DVDR program or go to www.dvd2dvdr.com and use the basic tutorials
If you want to keep the original menus and do not mind losing a few things like some of the subtitles, then go to www.doom9.org and there are some tutorials there that will walk you through the process
I have found that doing DVDs is alot more indepth and complicated than doing ole DivX or SVCDs. There is so much more you can do and so many more options that you can utilize, it is a big learning curve -
mm well, i allready take off everything i don't really need (menus, subtitles etc) it's actually only the movie...
so as you said,i'm close to fit it on 1 dvd, so my question is : is there any way to get it a bit smaller ? -
Just to re-encode it
Go check out the basic tutorials at www.dvd2dvdr.com
It will walk you through exactly what you need to do. Btw, you really will not notice a difference if you re-encode that just a bit smallter. The bitrate will still be fantastic for you -
I was just reading a thread about transcoding just a single VOB or chapter.
Do a search. -
thanks for helping me
i'll probably look stupid, but i just notice that in fact, the spanish language is still in it (with subtitles) so i thought i only keep the movie !!!
how can i do to remove other audio versions and subtitles ? (i did it with dvd decrypter, but it still keeps the language and subtitles)
please help ! -
Look at the guides on this site and also doom9 for using IFO EDIT
You can strip out all the audio streams and subtitle streams that you do not need
If the original rip is only 4.8gig then when u have done this i think you will find that it will come out small enough to fit on a dvd-r
No reencoding involved so you keep the original quality -
I would just start over and use Smartripper to rip the DVD. Once again, go to www.dvd2dvdr.com and it will walk you through ripping the DVD with only the English Audio Track
Then if it is small enough, you just author the DVD (it walks you through that also) and burn it -
hi guys
i also have had this prob before, and have wondered if this would be a possibility?
Instead of re-encoding the whole movie, which can take anything upto 12 hours, depending on the length of it, if you are that close to fitting it onto your dvdr, can you not just re-encode one of the vob files instead of all of them? I know that the quality step down is quite minimal, but it would also save a few hours surely?
Any experts got tha know how? -
