    Hey all,

I was wondering how you can burn a 8gb single Vob file to a DL disc. I recently converted a video from mkv to vob and it ended up being around 8gbs. I then tried to burn the file on nero and it said it couldn't burn files over 2gbs. I then thought of another idea of putting the vob file into Adobe Encore 2 and making a playable dvd there but the quality of it wasn't the same of the original( the vob file) after it was transcoded. Even though the size of the disc was about the same as the vob file. Another question, do i have to split the Vob file in to multiple pieces in order to burn it? and do I need to make an Image file. I need some help!!

    Thanks,

  2. If you don't have the authored DVD structure (Video_TS folder, ifo, bup etc...) it won't play on a standalone DVD player. Each VOB is broken up into smaller segments (about 1GB or so) when you author it. If you don't know how to do it manually, there are simple to use free applications such as FAVC and DVD Flick that will do the mkv=>dvd conversion for you

If you burn as a data disk (only playable on PC), use burn as UDF data disk. UDF file format supports larger file sizes. If this is the case, just keep it as .mkv because the quality would be better than the VOB

^ The MkV was around 4.92 and when i converted it to Vob it turned into a 8gb file. I want to play this video on my the dvd player. I was wonder what program i can use to break the VOb files into smaller pieces. If i do break them in to smaller segments, would I get judder when it moves to the next segment?. I know I can use Ifoedit to make .ifo and .bups. Where do i go from there?

    Thanks!

Edit: Thanks, I'll try it out and see if the quality of the author and converting is good! (btw does it burn Dual layer disc)

use an authoring program that accepts vobs as input or convert it to mpg with vob2mpg. the authoring program will make it into 1 gb vobs as that's the usual standard for dvd. there's no noticable pause between vobs on playback when they are in the same vts.

you might try the filmmachine and fit it onto a single layer dvd if it's a standard length movie.

    ^ Another great post!

It's not a movie. It's the opening ceremony of the olympics around 4 hours 12 minutes?
