  1. Hello all,

Thought I would post a Mini-How-to on CREDIT CUTTING.

There are many tools for cutting up VOBS, Chopper, VOBsplit, etc...
Many of you use those tools and thats fine, this is simply an alternative for those 1% of super fussy DVD Freaks, ME.

Cutting of Movie Credits if they start on a Final Chapter point is a snap, most of you know that you just DEselect them whenRipping the DVD down to your hard drive. But this yields a few problems, your last chapter menu link is useless, and for some people, the "Movie Over?" feeling is destroyed, or better yet, they dont even know the movie is over. So, if you want to leave a few seconds of credits, or the DVD your 'backing up', doesnt have an exact credit chapter start point.... Follow me...

Rip the Entire DVD to your Hard Drive
Load in the Last movie VOB into DVD2AVI (turn ON Specs, under OPTIONS).
Use the Slider Bar to examine your movie, Slide it to the cut point that you want your movie to end, Usually I put it a few frames after the credits start.
    Now, press the [ key
Save, save the project as Junk.d2v
Open this Junk.d2v file in Notepad.
Approx 12 lines down, you will see, Location=0,XXXXX,........
That XXXXX Value will be some HexiDecimal number.
Thats the EXACT LBA FRAME where you want your DVD to end.
SO, to translate that to a Decimal number so we can cut it off.
    Open up the Windows calculator.
Put into Scentific mode, then put it in HEX mode, enter your XXXXXX value, now put it into DECIMAL mode. Now its value is translated to Decimal. Copy this value down 'CNTRL-C'
    Close the calculator.
We did all of that to get the EXACT LBA FRAME in decimal because vStrip (GUI) only excepts Decimal values.
    Open vStrip(GUI)
Load up your last movie VOB
In the STOP LBA block, enter the DECIMAL value of the frame.
On tab3, Save your VOB as, whatever you want....
    RUN.....

OK, if all went well, you now have a NEW VOB that is cut exactly where you wanted it. All you have to do now is re-name it to the name of the original VOB that you started with (Backing up the original, if you messed up)

Now you can Stream-rip the DVD, Author, whatever... You probably just saved a few hundred Megabytes of size on you final DVDr.

    Any Questions, let me know.

  3. I already use this method, but perhaps someone can come up with a solution ...

Is there any way to cut to *any* LBA ? If you dont cut at the correct LBA you wont be able to import it into IFOEdit due to the missing nav pack, and you will get green or black blocks at the end (or in scene transitions if you are cutting a section from the middle)

Can we force/create a Nav point at a specific LBA ? (IFOEdit wont do it, at least after its cut AFAIK)

Note: You can get a valid LBA to cut from by loading the VOB into VOBEdit and finding an LBA that has a Nav Pack and cut using these as the start and end LBA's in vstrip.

  4. Randm_Task,

I covered the problem you speak off in this POST:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130275
    Check it out.

Its still a manual effort to add the NAV Packs, but this will get rid of the green blocky video entry point.

Good luck, any problems, ask away....

PS: I know some Visual Basic, perhaps I will make a tool to do this. Maybe? At least a Credit Cutter, that does all my steps automatically.

  5. Ill check that thread out later, thanks

Mate, I think you should definitely jump in and do just that if you have the time!

I would myself but I have no idea where to start!

What I would love to see is a program capable of true frame accurate editing. ie you can cut at any one of the 24 frames per second.

Especially if we could do this visually, ie play the vob and advance by frame until the one we would like cut or edit out is reached. It certainly must be possible, and would be incredibly handy (editing out scenes and making compilations etc), and Im surprised no one has done it yet.

  6. Unfortunately, the only software I have seen that can do this is $1495 US.. it's called M2-Edit Pro from mediaware.. all of the other solutions are pretty retarded, since none of them can open a full size MPEG file without chokeing (let alone a VOB straight from a DVD, which M2-Edit can) and require manual fiddling and tweaking (can you say "long time comming" ?). The only other solution I have seen is nanoCosmos nanoPEG cutter.. it does not, however, handle VOB files very well..

Sadly, a frame accurate, full bitrate, cutter/joiner that is not old school command line (you do NOT see what is happenning) at heart does not exist at an affordable price..

(If it cannot do a frame accurate cut/join on an unencrypted .vob file, it's useless.. and, if it does not allow you to use standard VCR style buttons to lead-in/lead-out select and cut/join the results, it's going to require the patience of solid rock to use..)

  7. If I had *any* idea of where to start and how to go about it I might give it a shot, but Ive only basic skills in VB (and thats through programming in Excel) so Im hardly the person to do the job

I dont even know which language would be best !!
