Mintek DVD-1600 for $60. This thing is much better than the Sony DVP-S330, in the sense that it plays just about everything and the Sony played practically nothing. It is reported, on this site, to go up to 5mbps! That is twice my sony.
I have a question though, as in backing up a movie. I am trying to back-up Lord Of The Rings, and I am interested in how many discs you would use for this 178 minute movie.
I have decided to go with 480x480 for this massive movie (so I can use a lower bitrate. If I burn at 720x480, I will have to raise the bitrate and the number of discs, because I desire quality). So, about how many discs would you invest into a movie? My largest discs, at the moment, are 700mb a piece (5 are CD-RW, about 50 CD-R's, and 25 CD-RW at 650mb).
If I go with the quality that I want, it will take 4-5 discs! EEEK! If you have used that many discs before, let me know if it was worth it or if you'd sacrafice quality to reduce the hassle of switching discs.
Thanks to those who responded in helping me with the Sony, but I had no luck. Oh well, now I got what I wanted and for a very reasonable price

Think about the future not the past. One day you may own a multiple dvd player that can hold five or even 100 vcds at a time, they already have that for audio cds. How many times will you watch the same movie anyway? Make the best copy you can and admit to yourself that cd-rs are not expensive. Just my advice

It would be good for those who don't want to buy a whole new DVD player just for more disc storage. Besides, most of the big-name DVD players or high-priced ones don't play much of a variety. I bought this so I could play (X)(S)VCD's.
BTW, to Burn LOTR at highest quality possible for my DVD player (5mbps), it would take 8 discs. That means I will be changing discs every 22 minutes, lol.
One day....disc changer.
