Nero 5.5 VCD/SVCD burning help required

hi,
I'm really new to this thing and need some advice. I burned my first VCD in nero 5.5 perfectly. Then it seemed not to work on subsequent attempts. So I installed a trial version of 'RecordMax' (by stomp). This allowed me to make VCD's again with no problem, but i wanted to burn SVCD's so installed the mpeg 2 codec from nero. Still no luck, and even worse it won't burn my audio CD's either now . Nero says it has burnt succseffuly but when you try to play back even audo on my music centre it will only play the first second and them stop, although it recognises that there are say 4 tracks on it.
Now I read that if you have Nero burning installed that you should not install another burning programe as the drivers usually interfer with each other I have tried uninstalling Nero and recordMax...all to no evail
Please please can someone give me some advice before I go mad
I've lost so many CDR's now (

I dont know how new you are at this, so im going to suggest that you do this............

Make sure the you finalize the CD.

Download VCDEasy as VCDEasy can burn SVCD's and VCD's. It also fixes many problems with burning that Nero has.
