  1. I have burned a couple of SVCD's using a 2X speed. Occasionally the picture screws up or lines come up on the screen. Maybe 3 times in 60 minutes.

    Is this normal for SVCD's?

Your burning speed has nothing to do with the quality of the encode. It does have something to do with the quality of your disks and your cdrw. 2x should work for anything .

Is the SVCD VBR? It may have a peak bitrate higher than your player can handle. A good test is if it plays fine on your PC but not on your standalone player.

  3. A good start on trouble-shooting is to play the movie file on your pc (from the harddrive, not from the cd), and look for the same glitches. At least then you'll know if the file itself is bad, or if not then possibly bad medium.

  4. I have a HP 9300 burner and TDK CD-R's.

What are the best and most reliable CD-R's to use for VCD and SVCD's

  5. Various brands work better with various DVD players. On my Apex player, I've had bad luck with store-brands (CompUSA, Circuit City) but very good luck with most name-brands (Imation, Maxell, etc). I would think TDK would be a good name-brand, although I've never personally tried it, you'll just have to experiment with a few to see what works best in your player. What works for me may or may not work for you.

I find the best brands of CD-R are Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) and Verbatim. :P
