  1. Hello all.
    --I have encoded and burned to near-dvd quality Star Wars:ESB to 2 Memorex 80min/700mb CDRs. I always use Memorex and have never had any problems with them let alone any coasters. The original file is a DivX/AVI PAL 25FPS,640x272, 1:56:17 time. I encoded it on 2 CDRs at 58min. per cdr. These are the specs I encoded with: PAL format,1:1 VGA,Still Picture 55, Range 2, Time Axis 6,Quantize Matrix tab=Soften Block Noise 100 on both intra and non-intra, 480x576res, and at 1634kbps.

    -They play fine on my PC and they played great on my Samsung P421 dvd-player last night but here's my problem...............
    ...............I try to play them in my dvd-player today and now they skip at random all over the place with the audio becoming out of sync as well. -Regular DVD movies and music CDRs work fine with no problems.Also, the cd's still work fine on my PC just now randomly skip all over in my dvd-player so I am totally baffled.
    --This just does not make any sense at all. --Why would they play fine before but now have tracking issues??

    -Could my DVD player be overheating or maybe with this type of Data burned on cdr's be over-sensitive in stand-alone dvd-players?? -Could my DVD player be working to hard to read/decode the PAL video causing these skips??..........I dunno.
    -I live in the U.S. by the way.

    ----Any help is very greatly appreciated ASAP because these are a gift for a friend of mine that is moving out of state.

    -Thank You, ~S!TH

  2. -I just thought of something. Since I live in the U.S., could my DVD-player trying to hard to read/decode the PAL formatted video causing the hiccups and random out of sync issues??

    --Should I have encoded/converted the DivX PAL to NTSC in TMPGEnc and maybe that will fix the problems??

    -Thanks,~S!TH

  4. --Ok, I just got done re-encoding Star Wars: Return of the Jedi to 3 CD's SVCD instead of 2 cd's like I did with ESB in the previous post.But I am still having the same playback/tracking issues in my Samsung P421 DVD-player.
    -This time though, I re-encoding them to NTSC instead of staying with PAL.I also went with the high-quality settings:noise-reduction (high-quality)--Still Picture 55, Range 2 and Time Axis 6--, sharpen edges, VGA1:1, full-screen(keep aspect ratio), Quantize Matrix--Soften Block Noise to 100(on intra and non-intra).
    -This resulted in roughly 9 hours encoding time for 40minutes of video for me.

    __CD1=:42:10.120min./2339kbps
    __CD2=:39:05min/2468kbps
    __CD3=:39:11min/2462kbps

    -The quality is incredible and very close to DVD quality but these darn sync problems are making me pull my hair out.

    -The SVCD plays fine for a while then randomly starts getting out of sync with the video and audio. I know it's not the encoded .mpg's because they all work fine on my PC.
    Could this be maybe a media issue??
    Maybe Memorex CDR's suck for SVCD in standalone DVD-players??
    Am I doing something wrong with the advanced adjustments I'm making for encoding as far as Noise-Reduction and screen-type??

    -The original files are DivX-640x272, 25fps, PAL, 105kbps. Are the noise-reduction settings (high-quality--Still Picture 55, Range 2 and Time Axis 6) that I am encoding with wrong, causing the stand-alone DVD-player to have problems reading the data-stream steadily??

    PLEASE!!, someone help me out here.........Any help is very greatly appreciated ASAP!

    -Thanks, ~S!TH

    i just talked to a Pioneer rep about this very issue a client of our had (on dvd-r disk though ) would play great first 1 or 2 days then not play proper ..

    well i learned something ..

    Pioneer
    tech support said it was very bad to leave a DVD-R disk in a player
    for an extended time since the player may continually try to read the
    disk and the laser can heat up and even possibly damage the disk.

    this goes for cd-r and dvd r

  7. Was your problem random speedups and then slowdowns? I done the exact same movies and my dvd player will just suddenly speed up, then slow down to catch up with itself.
