what ripper is best?

Right now I user smartripper 2.28 but have a lot of problems with dvd2svcd, flask and subrip.

I got the suggestion to use another ripping tool.

The question: which is best all-round ripper so all this
programs can read from the ripped dvd?

I use smartripper. Haven't had any problems since I got over the initial "Newbie" problems. Now I virtually can rip in my sleep.

Steps of software I use. I'ts always importamt to use the latest versions of the programs. (Except use version 4 of easycd creator, it has bugs with Win2000)Oh, and Win 2000 is the ONLY OS to use for doing rips.You can find the latest verions on the doom9.net site.
