I know this might sound confusing but I think I downloaded a movie from Kazaa that's DVD-ripped but it's in AVI format. How do I convert that to MPEG so that I can put it on a VCD?

Also, is it better make it into an SVCD? There's something wrong with playing SVCDs in my DVD Player. When you press play, a menu shows up with folders named "cdi", "ext", "mpeg2", etc. To play the movie, you have to go to the "mpeg2" folder and then click the MPEG file there. But the movie comes out all distorted and messed up.

99% of the movies from Kazaa are AVI - DIVX (DVD ripped).
Read here for instructions on converting from DIVX to VCD:

SVCD is MPEG 2 and is usually better quality than VCD/MPEG 1.

for svcd it sounds like you need to use the header trick. mine does the same thing unless i use it. as far as that avi question, next time you should look at that little menu on the left before posting.
