I have an 8GB AVI file that plays perfectly on my PC. I'm trying to convert it to a VCD and have run it through numerous encoders. avi2vcd worked fine but the video quality was less than stellar. TMPGEnc gave much better video quality but the audio appears to be about 1/2 second out of sync. This is only noticable when a person is talking. I then tried the Panasonic encoder and got pretty much the same results as TMPGEnc.
I created a smaller clip in VirtualDub to play with and again the AVI created by VirtualDub is perfect as well as the MPG from avi2vcd. The audio is off from the very beginning of the small clip from both TMPGEnc and Panasonic.
I've been playing around with TMPGEnc's ability to adjust the audio track and I'm getting close to syncing up but it's a real pain. When you preview the clip it plays fine but when you encode it and play the MPG it's out of sync. Is there any settings that I'm missing? Is there an easier way to get them back in sync? I don't think it's due to dropped frames as the small clip is off from the very beginning.
Thanks,
Chuck

Just to let you know that you are not alone, I too have exactly the same problem. I have managed to nail the audio gap correct setting in TMPGenc (200ms) and this works for every avi>mpeg conversion, but it would be great to know a) why it happens and b) is there a setting which would sort this out with the click of a button? I will watch this thread with interest!
